This Part is applicable to the flame-retardant protective clothing for users who are conducting operation in a place where there are open flames, sparks, near molten metal, and flammable substances with a risk of fire. This Part is not applicable to the flame-retardant protective clothing used for fire rescue. 2 Normative references The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this Part of GB 8965 through reference in this Part. For dated references, the subsequent amendments (excluding corrigendum) or revisions do not apply to this Part, however, parties who reach an agreement based on this Part are encouraged to study if the latest versions of these documents are applicable. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document applies. GB/T 250, Textiles - Tests for colour fastness - Grey scale for assessing change in colour GB/T 2912.1, Textiles - Determination of formaldehyde - Part 1: Free and hydrolyzed formaldehyde (water extraction method) GB/T 3916-1997, Textiles - Yarns from packages - Determination of single- end breaking force and elongation at break GB/T 3917.3, Textiles - Tear properties of fabrics - Part 3: Determination of tear force of trapezoid-shaped test specimens GB/T 3920, Textiles - Tests for colour fastness - Colour fastness to rubbing GB/T 3921.1, Textiles - Tests for colour fastness - Colour fastness to washing: Test 1 3 Terms and definitions For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions defined in GB/T 12903 as well as the followings apply. 3.1 flame-retardant protective clothing The protective clothing that can prevent itself from being ignited, flame burning and afterglow in contact with flames and hot objects. 3.2 afterflame time The time that, under specified test conditions, the material continues to burn after removing (igniting) the ignition source. 3.3 afterglow time The time that, under specified test conditions, when the flame combustion ends, or after removing (igniting) the ignition source, the material continues to burn without flames. 3.4 damage length The maximum length of material damage area in specified direction, under specified test conditions. 3.5 TPP; Thermal protective performance The thermal energy value 1 that causes second degree burns on the human body through fabrics. 4 Grading The flame-retardant protective clothing is graded into three levels: A, B, C. a) Level A is applicable to the flame-retardant protective clothing for users who are conducting operation in a place where there are open flames, sparks, near molten metal, with radiant heat and convective heat. See Table 1 and Table 2 for material requirements for level A flame-retardant protective clothing; b) Level B is applicable to the flame-retardant protective clothing for users who are conducting operation in a place where there are open flames, sparks, flammable substances, with a risk of fire. See Table 1 and Table 2 1 The higher the value of thermal protective performance, the stronger the thermal protective performance of the fabric. a) Buckles, hooks and zippers shall be easy to connect and disconnect. The materials of buckles, hooks and zippers shall not be made of fusible, flammable and deformable materials. If they must be used, their surfaces need to be covered with flame-retardant clothing; b) Metal parts shall not be in direct contact with human body. If elastic material is used, the covering material must be flame retardant. When lining must be used, the lining must not be melted; c) When using reflective tape and other ingredients, the ingredients must be flame retardant materials. The retroreflection coefficients of the reflective tape shall meet the requirements for reflective material above level 2 in 6.1 of GB 20653-2006. Flame retardant performance meets the relevant requirements of this Part. 5.1.3.2 Linings Polyester / cotton fabrics can be applied with hot-melt adhesive linings. They can be used for collars, gowns, sleeves, hem craft, waistband, pockets. The applying parts are not permeated by glues. There shall be no foaming or delamination after 20 times of water washing. 5.2 Style The style shall be simple, practical and beautiful. It shall be selected from the following styles: a) Top-bottom separate style; b) One-piece style. 5.3 Structure 5.3.1 Safe, hygienic and favorable for normal physiological requirements and health of the human body. 5.3.2 Adapt to physical movements during operation, easy to put on and take off. Wearing size is required loose. 5.3.3 Exposed clothing pockets must have flaps. The length of the top shall cover the upper end of the pants at least 20cm. Cuffs, feet and collars shall be bound off. The length of the flap shall be 2cm greater than the length of the pocket mouth. Do not use diagonal slip pockets on the sides of the pants to avoid exposed lines and live folds to turn upside down, so as to prevent splashing molten metal, sparks from entering or accumulating. 5.3.4 It is not easy to cause hooking, hanging, twisting, or grinding during operation. 6 Test methods 6.1 The determination of thermal protection coefficient of fabric is in accordance with the provisions of Annex A. Other test methods for flame retardant performance is in accordance with GB/T 5455. 6.2 The washing procedures before flame retardant performance test are in accordance with “easing laundry procedures of automatic washing machine (type A)” in GB/T 17596-1998. The number of washing times is 50 or 12, as shown in the notes of Table 1. Washing powder shall be selected according to the provisions of GB/T 13171. 6.3 The test methods for washing size change rate of fabric are in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 8628 and GB/T 8630. Use 5A program in GB/T 8629-2001 to wash and program A to dry. If it indicates gentle washing or hand washing in the use instructions, it shall use 7A or imitation hand washing program to wash. 6.4 The thermal stability test of fabric: level A’s shall be carried out under the conditions of (260°C±5°C), levels B and C’s shall be carried out under the conditions of (180°C±2°C), in accordance with Annex B. 6.5 The breaking strength test of fabric is carried out according to GB/T 3923.1. 6.6 The tear strength test of fabric is carried out according to GB/T 3917.3. 6.7 The moisture permeability test of fabric is carried out according to Method A of GB/T 12704. 6.8 The stiffness test of fabric is carried out according to GB/T 18318. 6.9 The fabric pilling test is carried out according to GB/T 4802.1. 6.10 The test of color fastness to washing is carried out according to GB/T 3921.1 or GB/T 3921.3. 6.11 The test of color fastness to perspiration is carried out according to GB/T 3922. 6.12 The test of color fastness to rubbing is carried out according to GB/T 3920. 6.13 The strength test of sewing thread is carried out according to 7.5 in GB/T 3916-1997. 6.14 The flame-retardant test of sewing thread is carried out according to the following methods: after the high temperature oven is heated to 260°C and stabilized, put 100m flame retardant sewing thread in the oven and take out than 80 boxes, it shall extract one box for every 20 boxes. When it is greater than 80 boxes, it shall extract 5 boxes. Inspect 2 spindles for each box. The performance shall meet the requirements of 5.1.2. If it fails, it shall double sampling for re-inspection. If it still fails, it shall stop using this batch of sewing threads. 7.1.2 Exit-factory inspection (finished product inspection) When it is less than 500 sets (pieces), randomly inspect 10 sets (pieces). When it is 500 to 1000 sets (pieces), randomly inspect 20 sets (pieces). When it is 1000 sets (pieces), randomly inspect 30 sets (pieces). When it is over 1000 sets (pieces), randomly inspect 40 sets (pieces). The performance shall meet the requirements of 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5, 5.6, 5.7. The quality determination is according to relevant content of Table 6. The determination rules are in accordance with 7.1.3.6. If it fails, it shall require doubling for re-inspection. If it still fails after re-inspection, this batch of clothing shall stop from exiting factory. 7.1.3 Type inspection 7.1.3.1 Type inspection is required in one of the following cases: - When material, process, producer changes; - When production is resumed after production is stopped for one year; - Periodic inspection for one year or thereafter; - When it is proposed by competent authority or required by quality arbitration inspection. 7.1.3.2 Type inspection items include material (material in finished clothing), style, structure, type specification, sewing, appearance, physical and chemical properties. 7.1.3.3 Sampling method is in accordance with 7.1.2. Extract 2 sets (pieces) of finished products for testing of flame retardant and other physical and chemical properties. 7.1.3.4 Classification of quality defects When single set (piece) of products do not meet technical requirements specified in this Standard, it shall constitute defects. a) Serious defects The defects that do not meet the standards and seriously reduce the performance of the product or affect the appearance of the product are called serious defects. Annex A (normative) Test method for thermal protective performance A.1 Scope This method specified the test method for thermal insulation performance of flame retardant protective clothing fabric that is placed horizontally and is exposed to radiant and convective heat sources. This method is applicable to the test of single or multiple layers of flame retardant materials. It is not applicable to non-flame-retardant materials. A.2 Principle Horizontally place the flame-retardant material sample. Keep it at a certain distance from the convection / radiation mixed heat source. When the amount of heat transmitted is equivalent to causing secondary burns in human tissues, record the exposure time. According to different placement positions of sample and testing sensor, use direct contact to simulate the situation that the flame- resistant protective clothing exists with the body in a certain space. A.3 Testing devices (Figure A.1 ~ Figure A.4) a) Heat source: including one radiant heat source and two convective heat sources. The radiant heat source uses a group of nine T-150 infrared quartz lamps. Place right below the horizontally-placed sample at a certain distance. The convective heat source uses two igniters. Symmetrically place below the sample and at a 45° angle to the vertical line in the sample; b) Protective fence: place between the heat source and the sample. Use the opening and closing of the protective fence to control whether the sample can receive the heat generated by the heat source; c) Sample holder and mounting plate: the holder is used for sample positioning. The size of mounting plate is 150mm × 150mm, and the thickness is 1.6mm. There is a hole of 100mm × 100mm in the middle. A 6.5mm angle iron is welded vertically at each corner; d) Sample holding plate: an iron plate with a size of 149mm × 149mm × 15mm. There is a hole of 130mm × 130mm in the middle. The spacer and sensor assemblies shall be mounted on them without bonding; e) Spacer: 128mm × 128mm × 6.4mm, with a 110mm × 110mm hole in the Annex B (normative) Test method for thermal stability B.1 Application scope This test method is used for thermal stability test of fabrics, supplementary materials and components of flame-retardant protective clothing. B.2 Sample The sample size is 100mm × 100mm. The sampling quantity in the warp and weft directions is 3, respectively. If flame retardant protective clothing has multiple layers, test it as a whole. As required, if it is water washing, it shall respectively test before and after 3 times of washings according to GB/T 17596. B.3 Test devices B.3.1 Drying box Temperature range: 20°C~300°C; Temperature fluctuation: ± 2.0°C; There is sufficient volume to separately place the test sample. B.3.2 Measuring ruler Use a 1m long millimeter scale. B.4 Test preparation Hold the sample for 24h under a standard atmospheric pressure, 20°C±2°C and a relative humidity of 65%±5%. B.5 Test steps Heat the drying box to the temperature required: (260°C±2°C) for level A, (180°C±2°C) for levels B and C. Immediately place the hanging sample into the drying box. The sample shall not contact the wall of the drying box. Close the time since the door of drying box is closed. Open the drying box door after 5min. Take out the sample. It shall measure the sizes in the length, width directions at room temperature within 2min. B.6 Test conclusion ......
