1 Scope
This Part of GB 7956 specifies terms and definitions, classification and model,
general technical requirements and test methods of fire-fighting vehicles.
This Part is applicable to various fire-fighting vehicles.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
fire extinguishing at the same time or in sequence.
3.1.7
gas fire-fighting vehicle
Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with gas extinguishing agent
cylinder and adopting gas as extinguishing agent.
3.1.8
compressed air foam system fire-fighting vehicle
Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with water tank and concentrated
tank and spraying foam through compressed air foam system for fire
extinguishing.
3.1.9
pumper fire-fighting vehicle
Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with fire pump, not equipped with
extinguishing agent tank and extinguishing fire or supplying water by directly
making use of water source.
3.1.10
high-expansion foam fire-fighting vehicle
Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with water tank and concentrated
tank and spraying high-expansion foam through high-expansion foam
generator for fire extinguishing.

water mist fire-fighting vehicle
Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with water tank and water mist
extinguishing devices.

3.3

Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with special fire-fighting unit and
used for fire-fighting technical operation of certain special item.
3.3.1
command and communication fire-fighting vehicle
Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with wireless communication
equipment, power generation equipment, lighting equipment, equipment for
fireground video recording and amplification equipment and used for on-scene
communication and command.
3.3.2
rescue fire-fighting vehicle
Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with emergency rescue apparatus,
truck with crane or vehicle mounted forklift capable of lifting, windlass and
lighting system and used for on-scene emergency rescue.
3.3.3
chemical accident rescue fire-fighting vehicle
Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with chemical accident disposal
apparatus and equipment and used for disposing chemical disaster.
3.3.4
transport and return fire-fighting vehicle
Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with vacuum pump and storage
tank, possessing the functions of suction, discharge and storage and used for
transporting dangerous goods on accident site.
3.3.5
lighting fire-fighting vehicle
Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with fixed illuminating light,
movable illuminating light and generator and used for disaster site lighting.
amphibious fire-fighting vehicle
Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with amphibious driving device
which may travel on both land-way and water-way.
3.4
auxiliary fire-fighting vehicle
Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with various support equipment and
used for providing cover for vehicles performing the task or the fire fighters.
3.4.1
equipment storage fire-fighting vehicle
Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with various fire-fighting equipment
which are placed and fixed in storage compartment and used for transporting
equipment to fire site.
3.4.2
fire scene investigation vehicle
Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with various instruments for
detection, sampling and analysis and used for investigating the fire site.
3.4.3
fire safety publicity vehicle
Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with various devices simulating the
fire site and used for propagandizing fire knowledge.
3.4.4
hose laying fire-fighting vehicle
Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with water hose laying and
recovering device and used for laying and recovering water hose with diameter
larger than or equal to 100 mm.
3.4.5
compressed air supply fire-fighting vehicle
Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with high-pressure air compressor,
high-pressure gas cylinder group, anti-explosion plenum box, etc. and used for
filling the air breathing apparatus cylinder with air or providing air source for
pneumatic tool.
3.4.6
foam liquid supply fire-fighting vehicle
Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with feed liquid pump and liquid
extinguishing agent tank and used for transmitting various liquid extinguishing
agents rather than water.
3.4.7
self-loading fire-fighting vehicle
Fire-fighting vehicle that is mainly equipped with self-loading and unloading
mechanism and used for fast transporting the module equipped with fire-
fighting equipment (storage compartment) to the fire site.
4 Classification and model
4.1 Classification
4.1.1 Classification by function
Fire-fighting vehicles are classified into four types by function: suppression-type
fire-fighting vehicle, aerial fire-fighting vehicle, specialized fire-fighting vehicle
and auxiliary fire-fighting vehicle.
4.1.2 Classification by structure
Fire-fighting vehicles are classified into three types by structure: tank-type fire-
fighting vehicle, aerial fire-fighting vehicle and special fire-fighting vehicle.
4.2 Model
4.2.1 Model composition
Fire-fighting vehicle product models are composed of enterprise name code,
type code, principal parameter code, product No., structural feature code,
purpose feature code, classification code and fire-fighting equipment principal
parameter code of fire-fighting vehicle, and, where necessary, fire-fighting
vehicle enterprise-specified code may be added. Model is compiled as follows:
unchanged, otherwise, the principal parameter code shall be changed.
4.3.2 The product No. shall be changed if the principal parameter keeps
unchanged due to numerical value rounding.
4.3.3 The numerical value rounding for principal parameter shall comply with
those specified in GB/T 8170.
5 General technical requirements
5.1 Complete vehicle performance
5.1.1 Reliably running performance
Fire-fighting vehicle shall be subjected to 5,000 km running reliability test.
Running reliability test shall be carried out after other tests. After test, all
functions of the fire-fighting vehicle shall be normal and all components shall
be free from damage, displacement, fracture, poor contact, oil leakage, water
leakage or air leakage; acceleration performance, maximum speed, braking
performance and fire-fighting performance shall not be inferior to those before
running reliability test. See Table 2 for the mileage distribution of running
reliability test.

5.1.2 Power performance
5.1.2.1 The specific power shall comply with those specified in Table 3.
5.1.6 Safety
5.1.6.1 Safety protection performance
5.1.6.1.1 Rear visual field of fire-fighting vehicle shall comply with the
requirements of GB 15084. Installation requirements of external lighting and
signal devices shall comply with those specified in GB 4785-2007.
5.1.6.1.2 The combustion characteristic of internal decorating materials of fire-
fighting vehicle shall comply with those specified in GB 8410.
5.1.6.1.3 Fuel system and air vent nozzle pointing direction of fire-fighting
vehicle shall comply with the requirements of 12.5 in GB 7258-2012.
5.1.6.1.4 Lateral protection of fire-fighting vehicle shall comply with those
specified in GB 11567.1 which is not applicable to fire-fighting vehicle re-
manufactured by adopting cross-country chassis.
5.1.6.1.5 Rear underrun protection of fire-fighting vehicle shall comply with
those specified in GB 11567.2 which is not applicable to fire-fighting vehicle re-
manufactured by adopting cross-country chassis.
5.1.6.1.6 External surface of fire-fighting vehicle shall comply with those
specified in GB 20182 and shall free from thin projection and sharp edge; there
shall be no articles or heat sources possibly hurting the operation personnel
surrounding the operating area of fire-fighting unit.
5.1.6.1.7 Protective devices shall be arranged for the hot surface exceeding
60 °C which is possibly touched by the personnel and high-speed rotating
object.
5.1.6.1.8 As for interface of water hose with nominal diameter greater than 65
mm and pipeline with pressure not less than 1.8 MPa on the fire-fighting vehicle,
they shall be far away from operation personnel or protective measures shall
be taken so that they will not hurt the operation personnel.
5.1.6.1.9 Pressure vessels used for the fire-fighting vehicle shall be
manufactured by enterprises with corresponding production qualification.
5.1.6.1.10 As for installation of pressure vessels on the fire-fighting vehicle, soft,
corrosion-proof and damped lining shall be used at the contact area between
pressure vessel and hard object.
5.1.6.2 Height of mass center and stable roll angle
Height of mass center and stable roll angle of full-load fire-fighting vehicle shall
meet those specified in Table 7.

temperature range of the fire-fighting vehicle indicated.
5.2.2 The vehicle identification number of fire-fighting vehicle shall comply with
the requirements of GB 16735 as well as those specified in 4.1.3 of GB 7258-
2012.
5.2.3 The color of fire-fighting vehicle body shall be R03 bright red specified in
GB/T 3181.
5.2.4 Retro-reflective mark shall be pasted on rear part and two side surfaces
of the fire-fighting vehicle in accordance with the requirements of GB 7258-
2012.
5.2.5 License plates (brackets) of fire-fighting vehicle and their positions shall
comply with those specified in GB 15741.
5.2.6 Tyre inflation pressure of fire-fighting vehicle shall be indicated on the
vehicle body above the tyre; unit of inflation pressure is "kPa", and "kg/cm2"
with the font size not greater than legal measurement unit may be indicated in
brackets below the inflation pressure.
5.3 General requirements for chassis
5.3.1 National legal measurement units shall be adopted for various
instruments used for chassis.
5.3.2 Power performance of chassis shall comply with those specified in 5.1.2.
5.3.3 If the selected engine is equipped with automatic fuel cut-off system, this
system shall possess manual switch which can cut off the system work.
5.3.4 Imported chassis shall comply with those specified in 5.3.1 ~ 5.3.3 and
possess Chinese operating instruction, Chinese Maintenance manual, etc.
5.4 Chassis remanufacture requirements
5.4.1 Requirements before chassis remanufacture
5.4.1.1 Engine cooling
If chassis used for fire-fighting vehicle need to drive high power load in parking
state, additional cooling system shall be installed for its engine cooling system,
the cooling medium of additional cooling system shall not be mixed with the
engine cooling water, and there shall be device emptying the cooling medium
arranged at the lowest point. Additional cooling system shall be able to control
the engine temperature within the specified range under various design
5.4.1.6 Exhaust system
5.4.1.6.1 Exhaust port shall not face to operation personnel or right side of fire-
fighting vehicle.
5.4.1.6.2 Exhaust pipe shall not be arranged at the place possibly causing
overheat of components or fire-fighting unit of vehicle.
5.4.1.6.3 Silencer shall be installed for exhaust pipe.
5.4.1.6.4 Protective device shall be arranged at where exhaust system is
exposed so as to avoid potential injury to operation personnel.
5.4.1.7 Braking system
5.4.1.7.1 Compressed air of air braking system shall not be used for jacking
emergency rescue equipment like gas cushion, pneumatic tool, etc.
5.4.1.7.2 As for the fire-fighting vehicle, if compressed air of air braking system
of chassis is adopted as the air source for components like pneumatic valve,
etc., air shall be taken at the part specified by the chassis manufacturer, and
control valve and filter shall be installed in the air-taking pipeline; the pipeline is
made of the same material as that of the chassis brake pipe but has different
colors.
5.4.1.7.3 Air pipes of braking line and air consumption components shall not
contact frame edge, jackstay, bolt head or support, if it is inevitable, protection
measures like retainer, corrugated tube or rubber clip.
5.4.1.7.4 Fastening measures shall be taken to fix the air pipes of braking line
and air consumption components on the frame; the spacing of fastening pieces
shall not be greater than 600 mm.
5.4.1.7.5 Air pipe of braking line and air consumption components less than 300
mm away from the heating components like exhaust pipe, etc. shall be
protected by taking heat insulation measures.
5.4.1.7.6 Air pipes of braking line and air consumption components shall not
contact hazardous liquids like acidic liquid of storage battery; nylon pipes shall
not be painted.
5.4.1.7.7 Remanufactured air braking system or hydraulic braking system shall
be free from air leakage or oil leakage.
5.4.1.8 Fuel system
5.4.1.8.1 Fuel tank and fuel pipeline shall be solid and firmly fixed, and free
5.5.2.4 In cab and passenger compartment, the distance from seat back top to
seat upper plane shall not be less than 450 mm.
5.5.2.5 Front and rear positions of driver's seat shall be adjustable.
5.5.2.6 Seats in cab and passenger compartment shall be strong and rigid
enough and be fixed reliably; seat strength shall comply with those specified in
GB 13057.
5.5.2.7 In cab and passenger compartment, seat cushion and seat-back shall
be made of non-metal soft flame retardant material with the flame-retardant
performance meeting those specified in GB 8410 as well as environmental
protection requirements.
5.5.2.8 If air breathing apparatus is installed at rear part of seat in cab and
passenger compartment, the area where people seat shall meet the
requirements of 5.5.2.1 ~ 5.5.2.4.
5.5.2.9 The number of people in cab and passenger compartment shall not
exceed 12.
5.5.3 Vehicle door
5.5.3.1 Opening of cab and passenger compartment doors (except driver door)
shall not be less than 85°. The dimension of passenger compartment door shall
not be less than that of cab door.
5.5.3.2 Cab and passenger compartment doors shall be opened/closed flexibly;
the door lock shall be able to be operated when wearing protective gloves. The
vehicle doors shall not open automatically during the driving of fire-fighting
vehicle.
5.5.3.3 If two or more rows of seats are arranged in cab and passenger
compartment, there shall be four vehicle doors (except airport fire-fighting
vehicle).
5.5.3.4 Vehicle windows shall be opened/closed flexibly, and they shall not open
automatically.
5.5.3.5 Safety glasses in accordance with GB 9656 shall be used for the vehicle
windows.
5.5.4 Boarding/alighting footboard
In the cab and passenger compartment, the spacing of boarding/alighting
footboards is not greater than 270 mm, the length of boarding/alighting
footboard for passengers (except that at driver side) is not less than 200 mm
protective covering and reinforcing rib shall be same as that of the original cab.
5.5.7 Internal and external operation requirements of cab and passenger
compartment
5.5.7.1 In cab and passenger compartment, lamp switch, alarm light and alarm
switch, storage box switch, slide board handle, vehicle door and window
opening/closing shall be able to be operated when protective gloves are worn.
5.5.7.2 In cab and passenger compartment, if air breathing apparatus is
installed at rear part of seat, there shall be mechanical locking mechanism
locking the air breathing apparatus, the unlocking handle of mechanical locking
mechanism shall be at the place easily contacted by the passenger, and the
handle shall be with such size that it may be operated when protective gloves
are worn.
5.5.7.3 As for cab and passenger compartment capable of being turned over,
two-way turnover mechanism capable of bearing load uniformly on left and right
shall be adopted, and the turnover angle shall not be less than 45°. Turnover
mechanism shall be operated flexibly, and reliable locking device and safety
device shall be installed for it so that the cab and passenger compartment will
not turn over during traveling and they will not fall down automatically after
being turned over, and there shall be Chinese instruction reminding the
operation personnel how to correctly use the control mechanism at the visible
place nearby the turnover control mechanism.
5.5.8 Safety requirements
5.5.8.1 Audible and visual alarm device shall be installed at the place visible for
the driver to indicate whether engine temperature and lubricant level is
abnormal.
5.5.8.2 External surface of passenger compartment shall be free from sharp
corner and sharp edge.
5.5.8.3 If power output device is installed below cab or passenger compartment,
materials with good heat insulation effective shall be used between them.
5.5.8.4 There shall be no sharp corner, sharp edge or protrusion possibly
hurting personnel in the passenger compartment.
5.5.8.5 The place where collision with personnel is possible in passenger
compartment shall be subjected to softening treatment. The softened layer shall
be made of flame-retardant material whose flame-retardant performance
comply with the requirements of GB 8410 and the environmental protection
requirements.
5.6.3 Legal Unit of the Measurement of the People's Republic of China shall be
adopted for the metering instruments used for fire-fighting vehicle.
5.6.4 Pointer instruments and digital instruments with the panel diameter less
than 60 mm shall not use two or more kinds of units of measurement.
5.6.5 As for operations which cause danger when conducted wrongly as well
as the complex ones, Chinese characters or illustration shall be arranged at the
place visible for the operation personnel to describe operation procedure,
method and consequence possibly caused in case of mis-operation. Chinese
characters or illustration shall be legible and readable for operation personnel
who are at operating position; as for operations possibly causing danger as well
as its consequence shall be described in red with the font size larger than that
of others by one grade. Chinese characters or illustration shall be kept
permanently without shedding due to vibration, high temperature, water and
other environmental reasons; lighting shall be arranged for the nameplates for
the convenience of reading.
5.6.6 The switch for residual water discharging of fire pump shall be arranged
at a place convenient for operating so that operation personnel may operate for
water discharging at vehicle side; the switch for residual water discharging shall
be in such a size that all the residual water in pump may be discharged within
45s.
