Foreword
6.1.5, 6.6 and 6.7.4 of this Standard are recommendatory; the rest are
mandatory.
This Standard is the revision to GB 6653-1994 "Steel Plates for Pressure Vessels",
with reference to ISO 4978.1983 "Flat Rolled Steel Products for Welded Gas
Cylinders", EN 10120.1996 "Steel Sheet and Strip for Welded Gas Cylinders" and JIS
G 3116.2005 "Steel Sheet, Plates and Strip for Gas Cylinders"; and combined with the
actual conditions of manufacturers and customer use situation in China.
This Standard replaces GB 6653-1994 "Steel Plates for Pressure Vessels", from the
implementation date.
Compared with GB 6653-1994, the main changes of this Standard are as follows.
— Standard name was modified;
— Thickness dimension range was extended;
— Delete the designations HP 245 and HP 365; add the designation HP 235;
— The chemical composition and mechanical property of each designation were
adjusted;
— Smelting process of open hearth was deleted;
— Requirements for non-metallic inclusion are modified.
This Standard was proposed by China Iron and Steel Association.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on
Iron and Steel of Standardization Administration of China.

Steel Plates and Strips for Welded Gas Cylinders
1 Scope
This Standard specifies dimensions, shape, weight, permissible tolerances, technical
requirements, test methods, inspection rules, package, marking and quality certificate
of steel plates and strips for welded gas cylinders.
This Standard is applicable to hot rolled steel plates and strip with a thickness of 2.0
mm ~ 14.0 mm, and cold rolled steel plate and strip with a thickness of 1.5 mm ~ 4.0
mm which are intended for welded gas cylinders.
