Foreword
In this Part, 5.2, 6.2.4, 6.3.2 and 7.2 are recommended clauses; the remaining
clauses are mandatory.
The series of hygienic standards for public places are constituted of five standards:
GB/T 18204 Examination Methods for Public Places; GB 37487 Health Management
Specification for Public Places; GB 37488 Hygienic Indicators and Limits for Public
Places; GB/T 37489 Hygienic Design Specification for Public Places; GB/T 37678
Hygienic Evaluation Specification of Public Places.
GB 37489 Hygienic Design Specification for Public Places is divided into five parts:
-- Part 1: General Requirements;
-- Part 2: Public Accommodation;
-- Part 3: Artificial Swimming Place;
-- Part 4: Bathing Buildings;
-- Part 5: Barber and Beauty.
This is the third part of GB 37489.
This Part was drafted in accordance with the rules in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Part partially replaces the content of design-related hygienic requirements in: GB
9667-1996 Hygienic Standard for Swimming Place.
In comparison with GB 9667-1996, this Part has several main technical changes as
follows:
-- Hygienic requirements of overall layout and function division are refined;
-- Hygienic requirements of swimming pool, locker room, shower room and foot
bath disinfection basin are refined;
-- Hygienic requirements of disinfection room and storage room (zone) are added;
-- Hygienic requirements of water treatment design for swimming pool are refined;
-- Hygienic requirements of heating ventilation air conditioning design are refined;
-- Requirements of electrical design are added.
This Part was proposed by and shall be under the jurisdiction of National Health
Commission of the People’s Republic of China.
Hygienic Design Specification for Public Places -
Part 3: Artificial Swimming Place
1 Scope
This Part of GB 37489 stipulates the basic requirements of newly constructed,
expanded and reconstructed artificial swimming places; and the hygienic design
requirements of overall layout, function division, monomer, swimming pool water
treatment design, heating ventilation air conditioning, illumination and electrical design.
This Part is applicable to swimming pools (natatoriums). Other artificial swimming
places may take this as a reference.
This Part is not applicable to swimming places for infants.
2 Normative References
The following documents are indispensable to the application of this document. In
terms of references with a specified date, only versions with a specified date are
applicable to this document. In terms of references without a specified date, the latest
version (including all the modifications) is applicable to this document.

3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions are applicable to this document.
3.1 Artificial Swimming Place
Artificial swimming place refers to various indoor and outdoor water surfaces (areas)
and their facilities and equipment, which are artificially constructed and opened up to
the public for swimming activities.
Where,
A-- the maximum acceptable number of swimmers;
S-- swimming pool area, expressed in (m2).
6.2.4 Wardrobes should be manufactured with smooth, mold-proof and water-proof
materials.
6.3 Shower Room
6.3.1 Shower rooms for male and female shall be respectively set up. A shower nozzle
shall be set up per 20 persons ~ 30 persons.
6.3.2 Shower partitions should be set up.
6.3.3 The walls and ceilings shall use anti-corrosive, heat-resistant, damp-proof and
water-proof materials. The ceilings shall have measures to prevent from water vapor
condensation. The ground shall be anti-corrosive, anti-seepage and non-slippery; and
convenient for cleaning and disinfection. The ground shall have a certain gradient and
a water drainage system.
6.3.4 In adjacent area of shower rooms, public bathrooms shall be set up. The floor of
public bathrooms shall be lower than the shower rooms.
6.4 Foot Bath Disinfection Basin
On the passage from shower room to swimming pool, mandatory passing through-type
foot bath disinfection basin shall be set up. Its width shall be the same as the passage;
its length shall be not less than 2 m; its depth shall be not less than 20 cm. Foot bath
disinfection basin shall have conditions for water supply and drainage.
6.5 Cleaning and Disinfection Room
6.5.1 When public supplies like towels, bath towels and slippers are provided, and
cleaning and disinfection of the public supplies are voluntarily conducted, exclusive
cleaning and disinfection rooms shall be set up. In the cleaning and disinfection rooms,
there shall be a cleaning and disinfection pool exclusive for towels, bath towels and
slippers, etc.
6.5.2 When cups are provided, and cleaning and disinfection of the cups are voluntarily
conducted, exclusive cleaning and disinfection rooms shall be set up. When physical
methods are adopted to disinfect cups, there shall be cleaning pool and disinfection
cabinet in the disinfection room. When chemical methods are adopted to disinfect cups,
decontamination pool, disinfection pool and cleaning pool that are exclusive for cups
