Foreword
In this Part, 4.1, 5.1.1, 5.1.2 and 5.1.4 are recommended clauses; the remaining
clauses are mandatory.
The series of hygienic standards for public places are constituted of five standards:
GB/T 18204 Examination Methods for Public Places; GB 37487 Health Management
Specification for Public Places; GB 37488 Hygienic Indicators and Limits for Public
Places; GB/T 37489 Hygienic Design Specification for Public Places; GB/T 37678
Hygienic Evaluation Specification of Public Places.
GB 37489 Hygienic Design Specification for Public Places is divided into five parts:
-- Part 1: General Requirements;
-- Part 2: Public Accommodation;
-- Part 3: Artificial Swimming Place;
-- Part 4: Bathing Buildings;
-- Part 5: Barber and Beauty.
This is the second part of GB 37489.
This Part was drafted in accordance with the rules in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Part partially replaces the content of design-related hygienic requirements in: GB
9663-1996 Hygienic Standard for Hotel.
In comparison with GB 9663-1996, this Part has several main technical changes as
follows:
-- Hygienic requirements of overall layout and function division are refined;
-- Hygienic requirements of guest rooms, cleaning and disinfection rooms, public
washrooms and public bathrooms are added;
-- Hygienic requirements of storage rooms and laundry rooms are added;
-- Hygienic requirements of ventilation and daylighting are refined.
This Part was proposed by and shall be under the jurisdiction of National Health
Commission of the People’s Republic of China.

& Prevention, Shanghai Municipal Health Commission Supervision Office, Fudan
University, East China Architectural Design and Research Institute, Jiangsu Huai’an

Part 2: Public Accommodation
1 Scope
This Part of GB 37489 stipulates the basic requirements of newly constructed,
expanded and re-constructed public accommodations; and the hygienic design
requirements of overall layout, function division, monomer, ventilation and daylighting.
This Part is applicable to hotels, inns and guesthouses. Other public accommodations
may take this as a reference.
This Part is not applicable to homestays.
2 Normative References
The following documents are indispensable to the application of this document. In
terms of references with a specified date, only versions with a specified date are
applicable to this document. In terms of references without a specified date, the latest
version (including all the modifications) is applicable to this document.

3 Basic Requirements
3.1 It shall comply with the requirements in JGJ 62.
3.2 It shall comply with the requirements in GB 37489.1.
4 Overall Layout and Function Division
4.1 Guest rooms should be away from traffic mainlines.
4.2 Guest rooms shall maintain a proper distance with rooms and auxiliary facilities of
other functions.
