Foreword
Chapter 4, 5 and 6 of this Standard are compulsory; the rest are voluntary.
This Standard was drafted according to the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Standard was prepared by reference to ASTM D3306-11 "Standard Specification
for Glycol Base Engine Coolant for Automobile and Light-Duty Service" and ASTM
D6210-10 "Standard Specification for Fully-Formulated Glycol Base Engine Coolant
for Heavy-Duty Engines".
This Standard was proposed by the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of
China.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of the Standardization Technology
Committee of Automobile Maintenance of China (SAC/TC 247).

Motor Vehicle Engine Coolant
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the terms and definitions, product classification, technical
requirements and test methods, inspection rules, marking and packaging,
transportation and storage of motor vehicle engine coolant (hereinafter referred to as
“coolant”).
This Standard applies to glycol base and other types of coolant for light-duty engines
as well as glycol base engine coolant for heavy-duty engines containing nitrite and
molybdate components.

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purpose of this Standard, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1 Motor vehicle engine coolant
The functional liquid which is formulated by antifreezing agent, corrosion inhibitor and
other materials and used in motor vehicle cooling system for cooling, anticorrosion and
antifreezing.
3.2 Light-duty Engine
The engines which are operated under the conditions much lower than the rated power

5.2.2 See Table 5 for the physicochemical property requirements and test methods of propylene glycol base coolant.
When there is no change in major materials or additives, exit-factory periodic inspection shall be
conducted twice at least each year.
The exit-factory periodic inspection items include. the exit-factory batch inspection items as well as
ash content, chlorine content, effect on vehicle organic finishes, water content and glassware
corrosion.
6.2 Batch
Each kettle of product produced or multiple kettles of product produced continuously and mixed
evenly, with the same materials and process.
6.3 Sampling
Take samples according to SH/T 0065; make sure the sampling quantity of each batch meets the
requirements of inspection and sample reservation; or take samples randomly from the products
packaged for inspection and sample reservation.
7 Marking and Packaging
The coolant shall be marked and packaged according to the requirements of SH 0164, including.
a) Product name and classification code;
b) Freezing point;
c) Manufacturer name and address;
d) Production date and batch number;
e) Product usage etc.;
f) Package shall be marked visibly with “Do Not Drink” mark, relevant precautions for use and
so on.
8 Transportation and Storage
The coolant shall be stored in a dark and well-ventilated place and prevented from exposure to
direct sunlight; its transportation shall meet the requirements of SH 0164.

B.4.3 Add dyestuff in the concentrate according to the proportion of 1.0 g/L; measure its water
content according to SH/T 0086 after mixing it evenly.
B.4.4 Add water to the concentrate to dilute to the reference solution of water content
4.00%±0.20%.
B.5 Use and Storage
B.5.1 The reference solution shall be stored with shaded plastic container or plastic-lined metal
can.
B.5.2 The reference solution shall be placed in a dark and shady place.
B.5.3 Take samples after shaking up the reference solution; seal it immediately after sampling.
