Minimum Allowable Values of Water Efficiency
and Water Efficiency Grades for Showers
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the minimum allowable values of water efficiency, water-saving
evaluation values, water efficiency grades, technical requirements and test methods
for showers.
This Standard is applicable to the shower with nominal pressure no greater than
1.0MPa, water medium temperature no greater than 90°C, installed in the washroom
(toilet, bathroom), shower room and other sanitary facilities.
This Standard is not applicable to the shower with its own heating device.
2 Normative References
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For the
dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable to this
document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including all the
amendments) are applicable to this document.
GB/T 8170-2008 Rules of Rounding off for Numerical Values & Expression and
Judgement of Limiting Values
3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions are applicable to this document.
3.1 Showers for bathing
The showering apparatus consists of valve body, sprinkler, connecting pipe and other
components.
3.2 Difference among flow rates
Under the specified dynamic pressure, the difference between the maximum average
flow rate and the minimum average flow rate.
3.3 Minimum allowable values of water efficiency for showers
The maximum allowable flow rate of shower.
3.4 Water efficiency grades for showers
It is confirmed as per the difference among flow rates and flow rate values, can be
divided into Grade-1, Grade-2, and Grade-3; thereof, Grade-1 indicates the maximum
water efficiency, while the Grade-3 indicates the minimum allowable values of water
efficiency.
3.5 Rated water efficiency grade
When the shower leaves the factory, the manufacturer indicates the water efficiency
grade for the shower according to the provisions of this Standard.
4 Technical Requirements
4.1 Basic requirements
Shower shall meet the express requirements of the product. This Standard data
judgment adopts the rounding off comparison method; the rounding off of the numerical
values shall be performed as per the provisions of GB/T 8170-2008; the digits of
rounding off is consistent with the digits of the aforementioned minimum allowable
values.
4.2 Difference among flow rates
Under the dynamic pressures of (0.10±0.01) MPa, (0.20±0.01) MPa and (0.30±0.01)
MPa, the difference among flow rates is no greater than 0.10L/s.
4.3 Minimum flow rate
Under the dynamic pressure of (0.30±0.01) MPa, the flow rate shall be no less than
0.07L/s.
4.4 Water efficiency grades for showers
Under the dynamic pressure of (0.10±0.01) MPa, the water efficiency grades for
showers shall be judged as per Table 1; such water efficiency grade shall be no less
than the rated water efficiency for showers.
Table 1 -- Water Efficiency Grade Indexes for Showers
Water Efficiency Grades Grade-1 Grade-2 Grade-3
Flow rate / (L/s) 0.08 0.12 0.15
4.5 Minimum allowable values of water efficiency for showers
The minimum allowable values of water efficiency for showers indicate the Grade-3
water efficiency.
4.6 Water-saving evaluation values for showers
The water-waving evaluation values for showers indicate the Grade-2 water efficiency.
5 Test Methods
5.1 Test on difference among flow rates
The test on difference among flow rates (ΔF) shall be respectively performed for 3
times under the dynamic pressures of (0.10±0.01) MPa, (0.20±0.01) MPa and
(0.30±0.01) MPa; respectively calculate their average values; and calculate the
difference between the maximum average flow rate and minimum average flow rate.
3 times flow rates tested under (0.10±0.01) MPa are f11, f12, f13; average value of
F1=(f11+f12+f13)/3;
3 times flow rates tested under (0.20±0.01) MPa are f21, f22, f23; average value of
F2=(f21+f22+f23)/3;
3 times flow rates tested under (0.30±0.01) MPa are f31, f32, f33; average value of
F13=(f31+f32+f33)/3;
The maximum average value Fmax (by the actual maximum value), and the minim
average value Fmin (by the actual minimum value).
Difference among flow rates ΔF = Fmax – Fmin.
The difference among flow rates and flow rate testing device for shower shall conform
to the provisions of Figure 1.

5.2 Flow rate test
The product is connected to the water-supply pipe with diameter 15mm, and formed
the using state; test it by cold water, cold water temperature ≤30°C; start the shower
valve and adjust the dynamic pressure to be 0.1MPa±0.01MPa, form stable and
continuous water flow; measure the corresponding flow rate as per the following
requirements.
a) For the single-valve single-control shower valve, adjust the handle to the
maximum position;
b) For the dual-handle dual-control shower valve, adjust the handle to the maximum
hot & cold-water positions; take the maximum flow rate value;
c) For the single-handle dual-control shower valve, adjust he handle to the maximum
hot & cold water positions, and the maximum mixed water positions (i.e. in the
middle); take the maximum flow rate value.
6 Instructions for Water Efficiency Grades
The manufacture shall confirm the product flow rate and rated water efficiency grade
according to the requirements of this Standard and test results; the product flow rate,
rated water efficiency grade, and standard number shall be indicated on the product,
in the exit-factory instructions, and on the package.
