weighing bottle. TRANSFER all of them into a 500mL volumetric flask with 15mL barium
chloride solution in it. ADD small amount of water to dissolve them, SHAKE well, LET it
stand for 10 min. DILUTE with water to the graduation, MIX well.
CONDUCT dry filtration with medium-speed filter paper, DISCARD 20mL primary filtrate,
COLLECT the filtrate in a 500mL dry conical flask, filtrate volume shall be just enough for
the test, COVER the rubber plug well, this solution is the test solution A, it is used for the
determination of sodium hydrosulfide content, sodium sulfide content, and iron content.
CALCULATE the mass (m) of sodium hydrosulfide solid in the fully soluble sample
solution according to formula (1).
m1 — The value of the mass of fully soluble sample solution prepared, the unit is in g;
m2 — The value of the net mass of the dissolved sodium hydrosulfide, the unit is in g;
m3 — The value of the mass of fully soluble sample solution weighed with weighing bottle,
the unit is in g. Determination
TAKE 25mL solution A, PUT it in 250mL conical flask, ADD 20mL water, ADD 10 drops of
alizarin yellow GG - thyme phenol blue mixed indicator liquid. TITRATE with titration
solution of hydrochloric acid standard, when the solution’s color turns from green to blue, it
is deemed as the first end point. Then ADD 5mL formaldehyde and 3 drops of
phenolphthalein indicating liquid, CONTINUE to use hydrochloric acid standard titration
solution to titrate, when the red disappears from the solution, it is deemed as the second
end point.
6.3.5 Result calculation Sodium hydrosulfide content is calculated based on the mass fraction of sodium
hydrosulfide (NaHS) w1, represented by the figures in the form of %, and calculated
according to the formula (2).
Within the pH value of 2 - 9, bivalent iron and phenanthroline generate red complex, USE
spectrophotometer to measure the absorbance under the maximum absorption
wavelength (510 nm).
6.4.2 Reagents and materials Sulfuric acid solution. 1+5; Other reagents are same as GB/T 3049-2006, Chapter 3.
6.4.3 Instrument and apparatus Porcelain crucible. 50mL;
6.4.3. Other equipment are same as GB/T 3049-2006, Chapter 4.
6.4.4 Analytical steps Drawing of working curve
DRAW the working curve according to the provisions of 6.3 in GB/T 3049-2006. Determination
WEIGH about 2 g liquid sample or fully soluble sample solution, PUT it into 50mL
porcelain crucible. TITRATE 4mL of sulfuric acid solution in the fume cupboard. PLACE
the porcelain crucible on the furnace and HEAT it till sulfuric acid is totally removed.
PLACE the porcelain crucible in the high temperature furnace and BURN it under 600 ºC
for 10 min. COOL it, ADD 1mL 1 + 1 hydrochloric acid solution and right amount of water,
HEAT it to dissolve the residue. After cooling, TRNASFER the solution into 100mL
volumetric flask, according to the provisions of 6.4 in GB/T 3049-2006, starting from
"when necessary, ADD water to about 60mL", PERFORM operation to the test solution.
Meanwhile, CARRY out a blank test, blank test refers to - not adding sample during
preparing test solution, while addition of other reagents is the same as that during
handling samples.
6.4.5 Result calculation
The iron content is calculated based on iron (Fe) mass fraction w3, represented by the
figures in the form of %, and calculated according to the formula (4).
9.1 Solid sodium hydrosulfide for industrial use adopts metal drum as its package or other
packages consistent with storage and transportation safety requirements at customer's
request. Net content per package unit is 25 kg, 50 kg or 150 kg respectively; Liquid
product is loaded and transported with a metal drum or tank truck with a net content of 200
kg per drum.
9.2 Sodium hydrosulfide for industrial product use shall be stored in a cool, dry and
ventilated warehouse, kept from drench, damp and heat, and must not contact with acid
and corrosive materials.
9.3 Transportation of sodium hydrosulfide for industrial use product shall be kept from
sun, rain, heat, and maintained with intact packaging.
9.4 The warranty of sodium hydrosulfide for industrial use is one year under the room
temperature below 20ºC, relative humidity not more than 60% and intact packaging.
10 Safety
10.1 Production site must be well ventilated. And it shall be equipped with a warning
device of hydrogen sulfide gas and necessary protection equipment used in case of a gas
10.2 During the process of analytical inspection, there is emitted hydrogen sulfide gas, it
shall be carried out in the fume cupboard with good ventilation.
