The appendixes to this standard are recommended and the rest are mandatory.
This standard is nonequivalent to the standard ISO 7860 second version
“Motorcycles - Methods of measuring fuel consumption” (English version) that
came into effect on December 15, 1995 by the International Standardization
Organization (ISO).
As compared with the above-mentioned ISO 7860 international standard, the
main changes of this standard are as follows.
- CHANGE the international standard cited in the normative reference of the
original standard to the corresponding national standard in this standard;
- DELETE the contents of the operation cycle in the original standard,
CHANGE into direct reference to the operation cycles as specified in GB
- ADJUST the order of some clause numbers;
- ADD the fuel consumption limit content;
- DELETE some contents from Appendix A.
This standard replaces the contents related to motorcycles in GB/T 15744-1995
“Fuel consumption limited value for motorcycles and mopeds” and GB/T 16486-
1996 “Motorcycles and mopeds - Measurement method for fuel consumption”.
As compared with GB/T 15744-1995 and GB/T 16486-1996, the main changes
of this standard are as follows.
- The fuel consumption limit is divided in accordance with the displacement,
and is different from the division range of the original standard, the method
of dividing by stroke is cancelled;
- The fuel consumption limit includes two parts. Type I test and Type II test;
- In the fuel consumption measurement method, ADD the measurement
content of the working condition method and CHANGE the speed
determination method of the constant speed method;
- CHANGE the number of trials of the constant speed method and the
calculation method of the test results.
Appendix A and Appendix B of this standard are normative appendixes.

1 Scope
This standard specifies the limits and measurement methods of fuel
consumptions for motorcycles.
This standard applies to motorcycles (except racing and off-road vehicles).
2 Normative references
The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this standard
through reference in this standard. For the dated references, the subsequent
amendments (excluding corrections) or revisions do not apply to this standard;
however, parties who reach an agreement based on this standard are
encouraged to study if the latest versions of these documents are applicable.
For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document applies.

3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions as defined in GB 14622-2007 and the following terms
and definitions apply to this standard.
Reference speed
The speed of the motorcycle when is undergoing the fuel consumption test
is the factory-determined maximum loading mass as specified in the technical
documentation of the vehicle. The mass of the fuel consumption measuring
device shall be measured and the mass of the above items recorded in the test

5.2 Fuels and lubricants
The fuel specified in GB 14622-2007 shall be used for the test. The density of
the test fuel is measured in accordance with the method of standard GB/T 1884;
the hydrogen to carbon ratio is fixed, which is 1.85 for gasoline.
The lubricant of the engine shall be configured in accordance with the grade
and quantity required by the technical documents of the manufacturer.
6 Type I test (measuring average fuel consumption
under specified operating cycle conditions)
6.1 Operating cycle on the chassis dynamometer
The operating cycle of the motorcycle is set in accordance with the provisions
of C.2 in Appendix C of GB 14622-2007. It is performed in accordance with the
urban cycles in CA.2 of Appendix CA.
6.2 Test device
6.2.1 Chassis dynamometer
The main characteristics of the chassis dynamometer shall comply with the
provisions of C.4.1 in Appendix C of GB 14622-2007.
When measuring fuel consumption, the measurement system for fuel
consumption, travel distance and time shall be synchronized.
6.2.2 Fuel consumption measurement method and device
Fuel consumption measurements shall be made in one of the following methods.

7.1 Test conditions
7.1.1 Type II tests shall be carried out on road or chassis dynamometers.

7.2 Road measurement methods
7.2.1 Driver and driving posture The driver shall wear protective clothing and wear a helmet. The driver's
height is 1.75 m ± 0.05 m and the weight is 75 kg ± 5 kg. Driving posture

7.2.2 Test road The test road shall be a closed loop with a length of more than 2000 m

travel in both directions in the forward and reverse directions and has a length
of 500 m or more. The surface of the test road shall be covered with asphalt, tar, concrete
or equivalent materials. The test road shall be as horizontal as possible. The longitudinal slope
shall not exceed 1%, and the height difference between any two points shall
not exceed 1 m, the lateral slope shall not exceed 3%. The test road shall be flat, dry and tidy. Test interval. 500 m.
7.3 Chassis dynamometer measurement method
Set in accordance with 6.3.1 when testing on the chassis dynamometer.
7.4 Test methods
7.4.1 The test shall be carried out at the highest gear and at the reference speed
specified in Table 2 for measurement of constant speed fuel consumption. The

Motorcycle fuel consumption measuring instrument
B.1 Measurement method
B.1.1 Flow measurement method
Flow measurement method is the use of a device that allows the determination
of the mass or volume of fuel passing through in a continuous or discontinuous
manner over a certain time interval.
The continuous device gives a display relating to the outflow; the discontinuous
device gives a display based on the minimum measured basic volume.
B.1.2 Volumetric measurement method
Volumetric measurement method is a method of measuring the volume of fuel
consumed using a container of known volume. This container shall be either
“fixed” or “variable” in volume.
A “fixed” volumetric container only allows reading of a fixed fuel flow. This flow
has been determined. This flow depends on the volume of the container itself
or the marking on the container.
A “variable” volumetric container is a container with a scale mark. It allows
reading of unfixed fuel flow.
B.1.3 Weighing measurement method
The weighing measurement method uses a weighing device to determine the
mass of fuel consumed. The device shall be either “fixed” or “variable” weighing

B.2 Installation of measuring device
B.2.1 General considerations
B.2.1.1 Regardless of the measurement method used, the installation of the
measuring device shall not interfere with or alter the fuel supply to the fuel
supply system of the vehicle under any circumstances.
The pressure drop, cross-sectional dimension and length of the pipeline shall
be considered primarily here.
B.2.1.2 It shall be considered to meet the conditions specified in B.2.1.1.
a) If flow measurement method is used, if the pressure drop across the
system is less than 100 Pa, the flow meter shall be set as shown in Figure
B.1 and B.2.
b) Installation of volumetric and weighing methods is shown in Figure B.3,
Figure B.4, Figure B.5, Figure B.6.
B.2.1.3 Other installation methods are permitted if it can be demonstrated that
the vehicle's fuel supply system is not affected.
