Foreword
All the technical contents in this Standard are mandatory requirements.
This Standard replaces GB 11566-1995 External Projections for Passenger Car.
Relevant clause of Economic Commission for Europe ECE R26 Regulation (Series 03,
Edition 2007) Unified Provisions for Vehicle Certification with Respect to External
Projections (French Edition) is adopted for modification of technical content in this
Standard, and comparison table on chapter and article number between this Standard and
ECE R26 Regulation is listed in Annex A.
Considering our country's situation, the following modifications are made in this Standard
when adopting ECE R26 Regulation.
-- According to the average height of population in our nation, “2 m” under 4.1, 5.17.1 is
changed to “1.8 m” in this Standard.
-- Normative reference is added;
-- The following chapters and annexes with respect to certification in ECE R26 are
deleted due to difference in form of standard system and legal system. Chapter 3
“Certification Application”, Chapter 4 “Certification”, Chapter 7 “Change and Extension of
Vehicle Type Certification”, Chapter 8 “Conformity of Production”, Chapter 9 “Punishment
for Nonconformity of Production”, Chapter 10 “Formal Production Suspension”, Chapter
11 “Name and Address of Certification and Test Department and Government
Department”, Chapter 12 “Transition Provisions”, Annex 1 “Notification”, Annex 2
“Example of Arrangement of Certification Mark”, Annex 4 “Notification”.
In order to be convenient for use, the following editorial modifications are made in ECE
R26 Regulation.
-- cm is changed to mm, and daN is changed into N;
-- "This Standard" is changed to "this Standard";
-- Graphical representation in GB 11566-1995 is adopted in Annex B;
-- The informative Annex A is added.
Main differences between this Standard and GB 11566-1995 are.
-- The title is changed from “Car” to “Passenger Car”;
-- Scope of application is changed from “Car” to “M1 Car” (Chapter 1 in this Standard);
-- Type of vehicle, corner radius, size of projections, and definition of antenna are added
(3.1, 3.4, 3.7, 3.9 in this edition);
-- Technical requirements for bumper is changed (5.5.2 in this edition);
-- Scope of edge of metal sheets that shall meet requirements is adjusted (5.8 in this
edition);
-- Height of projecting portion on antenna base and corresponding technical
requirements are changed (5.17.4 in this edition);
-- Technical requirements which are not easy to be recognized and shall be met by
antenna base are added (5.17.4.1 and 5.17.4.2 in this edition);
-- Informative Annex A is added (Annex A in this edition);
Annex B of this Standard is normative, while Annex A is informative.
Transition requirements implemented in 5.5.2, 5.17.4.1 and 5.17.4.2 in this Standard are.
a) For the type of vehicle newly certified, this Standard will come into effect from January
1, 2011.
b) For the type of vehicle under production, this Standard will come into effect from
January 1, 2012.
This Standard is proposed by National Development and Reform Commission.
This Standard is under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee for Auto
Standardization.
This Standard is drafted by organizations. Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile
Company, Ltd, Dongfeng Motor Corporation, National Automobile Quality Supervision and
Inspection Center (Xiangfan), Zhengzhou Nissan Automobile Co., Ltd.

External projections for passenger car
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the general requirements, special requirements and testing
methods for category M1 vehicles specified in GB/T 15089-2001.
This Standard applies to external projections of category M1 vehicles.
This Standard is valid for both of when the vehicle is stationary and when the vehicle is in
motion, however, it does not apply to exterior rear-view mirrors or to the towing devices.
2 Normative references
The articles contained in the following documents have become part of this Standard
when they are quoted herein. For the dated documents so quoted, all the modifications
(excluding corrections) or revisions made thereafter shall not be applicable to this
Standard. For the undated documents so quoted, the latest editions shall be applicable to
this Standard.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purpose of this Standard, the following terms and definitions shall apply.
3.1
Vehicle type
It refers to a category of motor vehicles which do not differ in essential areas such as shape of
external surface or materials.
3.2
External surface
It refers to the visible surface of covering component of the vehicle, including such as
bonnet, lid of the luggage compartment, doors, wing plates, roof, lighting and
light-signalling devices, and the visible strengthening components.
3.3
Floor line
It refers to the line determined as follows.
TAKE a cone with half-angle of 30° (height of the cone is self-determined, easy-operating
as the principle, cone-apex is upward, cone axis is perpendicular to horizontal surface),
LET it to continuously contact with the lowest contactable position along the external
body-surface of a fully-loaded vehicle. The floor line is the geometric trace of these
contact points. When determining the floor line, the jacking points, exhaust pipes or
wheels shall not be taken into consideration. The arch-gaps of the wheels are assumed to
be filled-flat, so as to form smooth and continuous surface. When determining the floor
lines of both ends of the vehicle, the bumper shall be taken into consideration. For a
specific type of vehicle, conical contact point might be located at the end of bumper or at
the body panel below the bumper. If there are two or more contact points concurrently, the
lowest contact point shall be used to determine the floor line.
3.4
Radius of curvature
The radius of which the imaginary part is the closest part to the circular.
3.5
Laden vehicle
It refers to the vehicle laden with technically-permitted maximum mass. If the vehicle is
equipped with hydropneumatic, hydraulic or pneumatic suspension, or a auto-stable
device which changes with load, it shall be loaded in the most adverse condition according
to the normal operating condition specified by the manufacturer.
3.6
Extreme outer edge
Reference to both sides, it refers to the 2 planes which are parallel to Y plane and are
tangent to the most outer edge; reference to the front and rear ends, it refers to the
perpendicular transverse plane which is parallel to X plate and is tangent to the most outer
front-and-rear edges. When determining the most outer edge of the vehicle, following
protruding parts shall not be considered.
(d) Their end surface area, when measured not more than 6.5 mm from the most
protruding point, is not less than 150 mm2.
5.7 Wheels, Wheel Nuts, Wheel covers and Wheel ornament covers
5.7.1 The external surfaces of wheels, wheel nuts, wheel covers and wheel ornament
covers are not subject to the restriction of 4.4.
5.7.2 There shall not have any sharp protruding on the parts such as wheels, wheel nuts,
wheel covers and wheel ornament covers that are beyond the external plane of wheel rim.
Wing nuts shall not be allowed.
5.7.3 When vehicle is travelling in a straight line, wheel’s part (except tire) above the
horizontal plane of tire rotating axis line shall not protrude beyond the vertical projection
on horizontal surface by vehicle’s body external surface. If it is unavoidable by functional
requirements (e.g. wheel ornament cover), the maximum protruding is 30mm, the radius
of curvature of the protruding surface shall not be less than 30 mm.
5.8 Edge of metal-panel
Metal panels such as gutters and rails of sliding doors shall be folded or fitted with a shield
which complies with the provisions of this Standard.
An unprotected edge shall be folded 180°, or be folded towards the vehicle body, so as it
is not contactable by a ball having a diameter of 100 mm.
