3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document. 3.1 Loading time The time, from the start of the test to the failure or completion of any one of the test bearings, expressed in t. Note. For the evaluation of lubricating oil, the recommended loading test time is 80 h. 3.2 Test duration Time spent without failure, during continuous operation, expressed in tp. It is equal to the loading time, for a test, which is completed in the specified time. 3.3 Friction torque The rotation of the bearing generates frictional force, which in turn generates frictional torque. 3.4 Friction torque of test bearing The torque, which is required to drive the two test bearings and the auxiliary bearing, expressed by Mr. It is equal to the product -- of the frictional force multiplied by the distance from the point of application of the force to the axis (this distance is equal to half the diameter of the pulley (6) in Figure 1). 3.5 Starting friction torque The maximum torque, which is produced by the test bearing, after the test is started 1 min, expressed by Mrs.

4 Method overview

4.1 When using the FE8 bearing wear testing machine for the lubricating oil test, first install two test bearings on the testing machine. Apply a certain amount of test oil into the lubricating oil circulation system. Through the lubricating oil circulation system, it supplies oil, at a rate of 0.1 L/min ± 0.02 L/min, to each test bearing.

5 Test equipment

5.1 FE8 testing machine 5.1.1 The test equipment adopts FE8 bearing wear testing machine, which consists of test head, drive unit, control system. The test head (see Figure 1) is detachably connected to the drive unit, through the cone seat of the test head shaft (7). 5.1.3 At the driving end of the test head, a pulley (6) is installed, for connecting the friction force measuring rope. The distance, between the force application point and the axis of the test head shaft, is 0.12 m (equal to half the diameter of the pulley). 5.2 Test bearings When the FE8 bearing wear testing machine is used, to measure the wear performance of lubricating oil, the test bearing used is a thrust cylindrical rolling bearing (see Figure 2 for the assembly diagram), which meets the requirements of DIN 722; the model is 81212.It contains a solid copper-zinc cage AND can be used up to 200 °C. Figure 2 -- Test head to accommodate thrust cylindrical rolling bearing 5.3 Test measurement 5.3.1 Measurement of friction force. The friction force, which is generated by the operation of the two test bearings, is measured by a load cell. The friction force change is recorded by a test friction force recording system. Before and after the test, the load cell shall be calibrated, by the use of calibration weight. 5.4 Test equipment 5.4.1 Protective gloves. Avoid direct contact with hands, when handling the test bearing. 5.4.2 Heating plate. It is used to heat the test bearing. 5.4.3 Cleaner. It is used to clean the test bearing. 5.4.4 Brush. The size shall be suitable for the cleaning of the test bearing. 5.4.5 Special rag. No lint or fibers falling off, during the process of use.

6 Reagents and materials

Cleaning solvent. The solvent oil for cleaning meets the requirements of No.2 solvent oil in GB 1922-2006.

7 Preparation of test bearings

7.1 Take the roller of the test bearing out of the cage. Put it into the cleaning cup. Use a brush, which is dipped in cleaning solvent, to clean it. In the same way, clean the bearing's outer ring, bearing's inner ring, bearing cage, etc. 7.2 Use balance to weigh the mass of the roller and the cage. Record it, accurate to 1 mg. Install the rollers into the cage housing, at room temperature. Before installation, use cleaning solvent and special cloth, to clean the installation tool.

8 Test steps

8.1 Setting of test conditions The set speed is 7.5 r/min ± 0.5 r/min; the temperature is 80 °C ± 1 °C. Apply an axial load of 80 kN ± 3 kN, to the test bearing. 8.2 Installation of test bearings 8.2.1 Install the bearing spacer, the inner ring of the test bearing, the cage with rollers, the outer ring of the bearing, on the test shaft in sequence (see Figure 1). The inner ring of the bearing needs to be heated to 80 °C, before installation. Install the bearing- mounted test shaft, into the test head housing. Then install the loading spring into the test head. Apply a certain test load, to the assembled test head, through the high-pressure press. Use bolts to tighten it (tightening torque is 40 N•m). Connect the assembled test head to the testing machine. 8.3 Preparation of the lubrication system The lubricating oil circulation system is composed of an oil tank and an oil pump, which has a filter and a flow regulating device. Lubricating oil is supplied to each bearing, at a volume flow rate of 0.1 L/min ± 0.02 L/min, through the lubricating oil circulation system. 8.4 Start-up test After the test is started, adjust the external heating device, so that the test oil reaches the required stable test temperature. Properly position heaters and cooling fans, as relative to each other, for temperature control. 8.5 Monitoring of friction torque variation If the friction torque is greater than the boundary value by 60 N•m AND lasts for more than 10 s, the test shall be terminated immediately. It reports the actual test time, in the test report. Record change of friction torque, by the corresponding recording system. It can obtain the starting friction torque and operating friction torque, at the end of the test. 8.8 Result calculation and evaluation Input the wear loss values of the four bearing rollers and cages of the two tests, into the Welbull diagram distribution software, respectively.

9 Report of results

9.1 Test information 9.1.1 The lubricating oil's test information shall at least include the following contents. 9.1.2 Example of test information. The test is identified as "Testing method-D-7.5/80- 80". That is, "The lubricating oil test, which is specified in this Part, is carried out under the condition of axial force of 80 kN, test speed of 7.5 r/min, test temperature of 80 °C". 9.2 Report 9.2.1 Roller's wear loss (mw50) and cage's wear loss (mk50), when the wear rate is 50%, in milligrams (mg); as well as the test conditions and the arithmetic mean of the starting friction torque (Mrs) and the operating friction torque (Mrb), in Newtons (N).

10 Precision

10.1 Overview Carry out the test, under the same conditions specified in the method. Use different test oils, to obtain different wear loss of roller mw50 and the wear loss of cage mk50, in the wear loss range of 0 ~ 1000 mg. 10.2 Repeatability, r This Part cannot determine the repeatability of the test method. Because in the repeated test, it shall be replaced with a new test bearing, so the evaluation results will be affected, due to the difference in processing conditions and dimensions of different bearings. 10.3 Reproducibility, R 10.3.1 In different laboratories, the same test conditions are used to test, to obtain two sets of different wear results. If it does not exceed the percentage value range of deviation boundary, for comparing the wear results given in Table 1, THEN, the two sets of results shall be recognized AND meet the requirements of this Part. This reproducibility rule applies to both roller's wear loss and cage's wear loss.
