Foreword
This document was drafted in accordance with the rules provided in GB/T 1.1-2020 Directives
for Standardization - Part 1.Rules for the Structure and Drafting of Standardizing Documents.
This document modifies and adopts ISO 14400.2021 Road Vehicles - Wheels and Rims - Use,
General Maintenance and Safety Requirements and Out-of-service Conditions.
In comparison with ISO 14400.2021, this document makes the following structural adjustment.
---The clause numbers in Chapter 4, Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 correspond to the paragraphs
in Chapter 4, Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 of ISO 14400.2021.
The technical differences between this document and ISO 14400.2021 and the causes for the
differences are as follows.
---The Scope is modified (see Chapter 1) to adapt to the technical conditions of China;
---ISO 3911 is replaced by the normative reference GB/T 2933 (see Chapter 3) to adapt to
the technical conditions of China.

1 Scope
This document specifies the general requirements for the use, maintenance and safety of wheels
and rims (including multi-piece wheels and rims) and the out-of-service conditions.
This document applies to wheels used on vehicles, trailers and combination vehicles.
2 Normative References
The contents of the following documents constitute indispensable clauses of this document
through the normative references in the text. In terms of references with a specified date, only
versions with a specified date are applicable to this document. In terms of references without a
specified date, the latest version (including all the modifications) is applicable to this document.

3 Terms and Definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 2933 are applicable to this document.
4 General Requirements for Use and Maintenance
WARNING. for multi-piece rims, the use of the wrong annular components may result in
catastrophic wheel faults.
4.1 Wheels and Wheel Components
4.1.1 Unconfirmed wheels or wheel components shall not be used even if they appear to have
the appropriate functions and the same dimensions. In order to ensure proper assembly and
effective load transmission, the characteristics of the wheel center dimensions shall completely
comply with the requirements of automobile parts, especially the hub axle and brake.
4.1.2 The bead seat shall be lubricated with a neutral non-corrosive lubricant or grease. The
hub, bolts, nuts and wheel mounting surfaces shall be clean. For multi-piece wheels, all contact
surfaces shall be clean.
4.1.3 In accordance with the requirements of Chapter 6, check the out-of-service condition of
the parts. If cleaning cannot restore the original condition of the mating surface of the parts, or
the parts have any of the circumstances described in Chapter 6, then, the parts shall be replaced.
4.2 Wheel Mounting and Removal
4.2.1 The mounting and removal of wheels shall be completed by trained personnel and the
correct tools shall be used for the operation.
4.2.2 For multi-piece rims, before inflating the tire, check the correct positions of the lock ring,
retaining ring, “O”-shaped rubber ring or sealing ring to avoid correction with a hammer; if the
positioning is incorrect, the tire shall be completely deflated, and the complete mounting
process shall be repeated.
4.2.3 When inflating the tire, the wheel shall be placed in a safety cage, or a safety chain shall
be wrapped around the wheel. The operator shall not stay in the danger zone or near the track.
The track refers to any potential path or route of the wheel components during explosive
separation or sudden release of compressed air, or the range of air flow release of one-piece
wheel rim, as shown in the shaded area of Figure 1.The tire shall be maintained at the specified
inflation pressure and regularly checked, otherwise, damage to the tire and / or wheel rim may
occur.
4.2.4 For multi-piece rims and divided (bolted) wheels, for safety reasons, before removing the
bolts from the wheel and tire assembly on the axle, the tire shall be completely deflated. This
safety requirement also applies to wheels with dual tires mounted side by side.
