1 Scope
Chapter 1 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 is replaced by.
This document stipulates the technical requirements for the ratings, markings, protection
against electric shock, construction, electrical properties and mechanical properties, etc. of
adaptors.
This document is applicable to adaptors for indoor or outdoor use, household and similar
purposes, only for alternating current, and with a rated voltage above 50 V but not more than
440 V, a rated current not exceeding 32 A, with or without a grounding contact.
This document also applies to travel adaptors (see Appendix AA). For travel adaptors, the scope
is limited to adaptors with a rated voltage above 50 V but not more than 250 V, and a rated
current not exceeding 20 A.
Travel adaptors that simultaneously connect two or more plugs are beyond the scope of this
document.
This document includes the requirements for adaptors with additional functionality, but it does
not include requirements for the additional functionality itself.
NOTE 1.additional functionality includes electronic power supply, dimmer, timer, protection
device and infrared switch, etc.
This document does not apply to adaptors equipped with appliance couplers that comply with
the provisions of GB/T 17465 (all parts).
Adaptors that comply with the requirements of this document are suitable for normal use where
the ambient temperature usually does not exceed +40 C, but the average ambient temperature
within a 24 h period does not exceed +35 C, and the lower limit of the ambient air temperature
is 5 C.
NOTE 2.tests at temperatures below the normal range are being considered.
2 Normative References
The contents of the following documents constitute indispensable clauses of this document
through the normative references in the text. In terms of references with a specified date, only
versions with a specified date are applicable to this document. In terms of references without a
specified date, the latest version (including all the modifications) is applicable to this document.
3.106 travel adaptor
A mobile electrical accessory intended for temporary use, allowing one or multiple types of
plugs from different national systems to be connected to socket-outlets not designed for plug-
in of these plugs.
NOTE 1.travel adaptor does not have to be an integral unit, it may integrate additional functionality.
NOTE 2.examples of the national systems are listed in IEC TR 60083.
3.107 travel adaptor with movable pins
A travel adaptor with a plug pin that can slide in and out, swivel or fold in any direction, i.e.,
the pin is not permanently fixed, but there are measures of locking it in its normal use position.
3.108 intermediate adaptor
An adaptor that allows one or multiple plugs to be connected to a socket-outlet through control
devices, such as. dimmer switches and photoelectric switches, etc. The control devices are
connected to the adaptors through an external flexible cable.
3.109 rewireable intermediate adaptor
An intermediate adaptor with a replaceable external flexible cable construction.
3.110 non-rewireable intermediate adaptor
An intermediate adaptor that is connected with the external flexible cable and assembled into
an integral unit by the manufacturer.
NOTE. see 14.1.
3.111 adaptor with cable outlet
A rewireable or non-rewireable adaptor with a construction for connecting the external flexible
cable through a flexible cable outlet.
3.112 rated power
The power value specified by the manufacturer for an electrical accessory.
4 General Requirements
Chapter 4 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 is applicable.
The travel adaptors are not allowed to charge electric vehicles and electric bicycles.
5 General Description Regarding Tests
Chapter 5 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 shall be applicable after adding the following content.
For the purpose of this test, unless otherwise specified, the term “adaptor” includes fused
adaptor, polarized adaptor, single-way adaptor, multi-way adaptor, intermediate adaptor and
adaptor with cable outlet. It is also referred to as travel adaptor in Appendix AA.
6 Ratings
Chapter 6 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 shall be applicable after adding the following content.
6.101 The rated voltage of the adaptors shall not be lower than the nominal voltage of the supply
system, to which, it can be connected through a socket-outlet.
NOTE. the nominal voltage is defined in GB/T 156.
6.102 The rated current of the adaptors shall take the minimum value of the following currents.
---the rated current of the plug part; or
---the arithmetic sum of the maximum rated currents of all plugs that can be simultaneously
plugged into the adaptor; or
---the rated current of a built-in overcurrent protection device (if any).
6.103 When given, the rated power of the adaptors shall be calculated by multiplying the rated
current (specified in 6.102) by the rated voltage (specified in 6.101) at a power factor of 1.
Whether it satisfies the requirements of 6.101 ~ 6.103 can be checked by observing the signs.
7 Classification
Chapter 7 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 is applicable.
8 Markings
Chapter 8 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 shall be applicable after the following modifications.
8.1 The content of the first dash is modified into.
---rated current (A) or rated power (W), or both;
Add the following content at the end of the sub-clause.
plug of the same system with the live bushing of the adaptor, or the pin of the adaptors with the
live bushing of a socket-outlet of the same system.
10.4 Paragraph 1 is modified into the following content.
The external components of the plug shall be made of insulating materials; but with exceptions
of assembly screws, as well as current-carrying and grounding pins, grounding strips, metal
rings surrounding the pins, and easily accessible metal parts that comply with the requirements
of 10.2.1 or 10.2.2 in GB/T 2099.1-2021.
10.5 Paragraph 1 is modified into the following content.
The socket-outlet part of the adaptors with a shutter shall also be structurally designed to ensure
that the probes shown in Figure 9 and Figure 10 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 cannot touch the live
parts without being mated with the plug.
For the combination jack of the adaptors with a shutter, when one plug is plugged-in and the
remaining jacks are not plugged-in, the probes shown in Figure 9 and Figure 10 of GB/T
2099.1-2021 shall not touch the live parts.
Add the following content.
10.101 When the adaptors is completely mated with the socket-outlet, the removal of the fuse
and / or fuse holder shall not cause the live parts to become accessible.
Compliance is checked by observation and, in case of doubt, when the fuse and / or fuse support
is not in the normal use position and the adaptors is completely mated with the socket-outlet,
by using the test tool 13 of GB/T 16842-2016 to apply a force not exceeding 5 N. The test tool
shall not touch the live parts.
11 Grounding Measures
Chapter 11 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 is applicable.
12 Terminal and Termination
Chapter 12 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 shall be applicable after the following modifications.
12.1.2 Replaced by.
Rewireable adaptors and rewireable intermediate adaptors with cable outlets shall be equipped
with the screw-clamp type terminals.
14.23.101 The adaptors shall be able to withstand lateral stresses that may be exerted by devices
inserted into them.
Compliance is checked by the following test through the device shown in Figure 13 of GB/T
2099.1-2021.
Firstly, the specimen is mounted on a vertical surface, so that the plane passing through the live
bushing is in a horizontal direction. The test surface shall be in a vertical position and parallel
to the vertical mounting surface.
Then, completely insert the device and apply a force of 5 N in the vertical downward direction.
After 1 min, remove the device and swivel the adaptor by 90 on the mounting surface. Test
four times and swivel the mating surface by 90 each time. During the test, the device shall not
be completely disengaged. The test shall be repeated for each socket-outlet part of the adaptor.
After the test, the adaptor shall not be damaged within the meaning of this document and shall,
in particular, comply with the requirements of Chapter 22.
14.24 Modified into.
The shape of the adaptors and / or the material they are made of shall make it easy to pull out
the adaptors from the corresponding socket-outlets.
In addition, the gripping surface shall be designed so that the adaptors can be pulled out without
pulling on the flexible cable.
Compliance is checked by observation. In case of doubt, check by test.
NOTE. an example of the test is provided in Appendix C, and the “adaptors” are used instead of
the “plugs”.
14.25 This clause of GB/T 2099.1-2021 does not apply.
Add the following content.
14.101 If any of the socket-outlets in the socket-outlet part of the adaptors has a grounding
bushing or contact, then, the plug part of the adaptors shall also have a grounding pin or contact.
Adaptors connecting socket-outlets with grounding contacts to plugs without grounding
contacts for Category-0 equipment are not allowed.
Compliance is checked by observation and the test of 11.5.
14.102 The adaptors used in polarized socket-outlets shall be designed so that their internal
connections shall ensure that the plug pins, and bushings and terminals (if any) of the socket-
outlets maintain the same polarity for the input and output parts of the adaptors.
Compliance is checked by observation and, if necessary, an electrical continuity test.
14.103 If the insulation of the external flexible cable does not satisfy the requirements of the
corresponding national standards, and the electrical strength test between the flexible cable and
the metal foil wrapped outside the insulation layer specified in 17.3 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 does
not comply with the requirements, then, the flexible cable shall be considered as a bare
conductor.
14.104 The body of the fused adaptors shall be equipped with suitable fuse links that comply
with the relevant requirements of GB/T 13539.3, GB/T 9364.2 or GB/T 9364.3.
The fuse link shall be connected between the adaptor plug pin and its corresponding socket-
outlet bushing.
In polar systems, the fuse link shall be installed between the phase line plug pin and the
corresponding phase line socket-outlet bushing.
The fuse links shall not be installed in grounded circuits.
The adaptors shall be designed so that when assembled, they will not leave the fuse links in a
poor contact condition.
Compliance is checked by observation.
14.105 The adaptors shall not have an enclosure shaped or decorated to resemble a toy.
NOTE. examples of such enclosures are those representing animals, people, characters or scale
models. Spraying is not included.
Compliance is checked by observation.
14.106 The socket-outlet part of the adaptors shall not allow plugs with a rated current higher
than the rated current of the plug part on the adaptors to be plugged in, unless the adaptors are
equipped with an overcurrent protection device with a rated current less than or equal to the
rated current of the plug part on the adaptors.
Compliance is checked by observation.
14.107 Chinese socket-outlets used on the adaptors shall adopt shutters or other protective
measures to prevent electric shock.
NOTE 1.other protective measures, such as. electronic, mechanical and interlocking, etc. Other
protective measures are indicated on the relevant product instructions.
NOTE 2.examples of the adaptors are shown in Appendix BB.
15 Interlocking Socket-outlets
Chapter 15 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 shall be applicable after the following modifications.
assembly screws, the measurement shall be conducted with the plug mated.
b) When the plug is in the mated condition, the measurement shall be conducted
successively between each pole and all other poles, which are connected together to
a metal foil in contact with the outer surface of external accessible parts made of
insulating materials, including external assembly screws.
c) For the adaptors with cable outlet and the rewireable intermediate adaptors, the
measurement shall be conducted between any metal parts of the flexible cord fixing
part, including the clamping screws, and the grounding pins or grounding terminals
(if any).
d) For the adaptors with cable outlet and the rewireable intermediate adaptors, the
measurement shall be conducted between any metal parts of the flexible cord fixing
part and a metal rod inserted as thick as the maximum diameter (Table 17 in GB/T
2099.1-2021) of a flexible cable (or cord) in its normal position.
For this test, the assembled elements connected in parallel with the live bushing shall be
disconnected, and, if necessary, the specimens shall be prepared by the manufacturer.
While using a metal foil to wrap the outer surface of the insulating material component or
placing the metal foil in contact with the inner surface of the insulating material component,
use an unobvious force and the test tool 11 of GB/T 16842-2016 to press the metal foil into the
hole or groove.
17.2.3 This clause of GB/T 2099.1-2021 does not apply.
18 Operation of Grounding Contacts
Chapter 18 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 is applicable.
19 Temperature Rise
Chapter 19 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 is replaced by.
The construction of the adaptors shall comply with the following temperature rise test
requirements.
All adaptors shall be tested in accordance with 19.101.The adaptors with assembled elements
shall be additionally tested in accordance with 19.102.
For the test of 19.101, if necessary, the specimens shall be prepared by the manufacturer.
19.101 The adaptors shall be tested in an unventilated environment at the center of the surface
of a wooden block, which is at least 20 mm thick, 500 mm wide and 500 mm high.
The socket-outlet part of the adaptors shall be tested with a test plug, whose pins shall be of
brass and shall have the specified minimum dimensions.
Clamping elements complying with the dimensional requirements in Figure 44 of GB/T 2099.1-
2021 shall be installed on each live pin and grounding pin (if any) of the plug part of the adaptors.
Each clamping element shall be equipped with a thermocouple, which may be mounted on a
pin together with the clamping element or permanently fixed in the point area as shown in
Figure 44 of GB/T 2099.1-2021.
If due to the design of the plug, it is not possible to use the clamping elements of Figure 44 of
GB/T 2099.1-2021, for the purpose of carrying out this test, the clamping device may be
modified.
Under this circumstance, the diameter of the screw, the threaded hole and the total volume of
the modified clamping elements shall be the same as Figure 44 of GB/T 2099.1-2021.
Then, place the screw approximately at the center of the exposed pin part and use a torque of
0.8 N m to tighten it.
Next, pass the AC power specified below for 6050 min.
The adaptors with side grounding contacts or elastic grounding contacts in the plug part shall
be tested with a fixed socket-outlet that complies with the relevant national standards and has
as average characteristics as possible, but the size of the grounding pin (if any) shall be
minimum.
Under the latter circumstance, plug the adaptor under test into the fixed socket-outlet and pass
the AC power specified below for 6050 min.
The adaptors with assembled elements shall be tested in accordance with the following method.
---assembled elements connected in series to the live bushings shall be short-circuited;
---assembled elements connected in parallel to the live bushings shall be disconnected.
The non-rewireable adaptors and the non-rewireable intermediate adaptors with cable outlet
shall be tested with the supplied cables.
The rewireable adaptors and the rewireable intermediate adaptors with cable outlet shall be
connected to polyvinyl chloride insulated flexible wires with a nominal cross-sectional area as
shown in Table 101.
The adaptors with cable outlet shall be tested in accordance with the requirements for multi-
way adaptors, considering the flexible cable outlet as the socket-outlet part of the adaptors.
In this clause, In is the rated current of the adaptors.
2) For the multi-way adaptors with overcurrent protection devices, the total test
current is the agreed tripping current / fusing current 1 hour after the overcurrent
protection devices are installed, but it cannot be higher than the value of the test
value in b) 1).
For the non-rewireable adaptors, special care shall be taken when approaching the termination
of the adaptors to minimize the impact on the construction / design / performance of the adaptors.
For adaptors with three or more poles, during the test, the current must pass through the phase
contacts. In addition, the current must pass through the neutral contacts and the nearby phase
contacts (if any), and the current must also pass through the grounding contacts and the closest
phase contact (if any). When conducting this test, the grounding contacts, regardless of their
number, are considered to be one pole.
Use thermocouples to determine the temperature rise of terminals, terminations and clamping
elements that comply with Figure 44 of GB/T 2099.1-2021, and the temperature rise shall not
exceed 45 K.
When carrying out the test of 25.4 in GB/T 2099.1-2021, the temperature rise of external parts
of insulating materials that are not necessary to maintain current-carrying components and
grounding circuit components in their normal positions shall also be determined, even if they
are in contact with the current-carrying components and grounding circuit components.
19.102 In addition to the test of 19.101, the adaptors with assembled elements shall also be
tested in accordance with the test method described in a) of 19.101, provided that the assembled
elements are not short-circuited or disconnected, and the test current is the minimum of the
following two. the rated current of the overcurrent protection devices (if any) and the rated
current of the corresponding plug that can be plugged into the adaptors. During the test, except
for the overcurrent protection devices, the assembled elements shall operate under the most
unfavorable conditions of power loss. When the assembled elements must operate at the rated
voltage, the test voltage shall be their rated voltage.
During the test, in addition to the temperature rise of terminals, terminations and clamping
elements that comply with Figure 44 of GB/T 2099.1-2021, the maximum temperature rise of
the accessible metal parts shall be measured and it shall not exceed 30 K; the temperature rise
of the accessible non-metallic components shall not exceed 40 K.
For the non-rewireable adaptors, special care shall be taken when approaching the termination
of the adaptors to minimize the impact on the construction / design / performance of the adaptors.
20 Breaking Capacity
Chapter 20 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 shall be applicable after the following modifications.
Paragraph 2 is modified into the following content.
Compliance is checked by using the test equipment shown in Figure 16 of GB/T 2099.1-2021
to test the socket-outlet part of the adaptors and the plug part with non-solid pins.
Paragraph 4 is modified into the following content.
The socket-outlet part of the adaptors shall be tested with a test plug. The pins of the test plug
shall be made of brass, and if applicable, shall have an insulating sheath. The pins of the test
plug shall have a maximum specified size, with a tolerance of 00.06 mm, and the space between the pins is the nominal distance, with a tolerance of 0.050 mm. However, as far as insulating
sheaths are concerned, it is sufficient as long as their dimensions are within the tolerance range
provided in the relevant standards.
Paragraph 8 is modified into the following content.
Plug (in) the plug part and pull (out) from the socket-outlet for 50 times (100 strokes). The plug-
in and pull-out rate is.
---For adaptors with a rated current not greater than 16 A and a rated voltage not greater
than 250 V, 30 strokes per minute;
---For other adaptors, 15 strokes per minute.
Paragraph 9 is modified into the following content.
The test voltage is 1.1 times the rated voltage of the plug that can be plugged into the socket-
outlet part of the adaptors. The test current is 1.25 times the rated current of the plug that can
be plugged into the socket-outlet part of the adaptors.
Add before the second to last paragraph.
Each socket-outlet part and plug part of the adaptors shall be independently tested.
The adaptors with assembled elements shall be tested in accordance with the following method.
---assembled elements connected in series to the live bushings shall be short-circuited;
---assembled elements connected in parallel to the live bushings shall be disconnected.
21 Normal Operation
Chapter 21 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 shall be applicable after the following modifications.
